What to Expect
By choosing our health and wellness center, you can expect to receive the highest level of professional care, service, respect and attention. There is a very good reason for this. Our health and wellness center is mainly a “By Referral Only” practice…and that means you had to be referred by an existing client or doctor in order to be accepted into our health and wellness center.
If you are interested in correcting your health/spinal issues, you have come to the right place.
Your first two visits give us the opportunity to get to know each other, provide us with most of the necessary information needed to assess the severity of your health/spinal issues.
By reviewing your personal history, orthopedic, neurologic, and spinal examination findings, x-rays if needed and first adjustment results, our experience will give us a pretty good understanding of what will be the course of action to reach your health goals.
You will never be “in the dark” about any aspect of your care, or our relationship. We have one of the best equipped chiropractic offices that can handle nearly all spinal and extremity conditions. This includes spinal decompression, cold laser therapy and other treatment modalities.
Were you aware that chiropractors spend more hours in school than a general practice medical doctor? Chiropractic College has more hours of classroom education than medical college (4,800 hours vs. 4,667 hours); chiropractic students on average receive 200 hours more in anatomy, and 60 hours more of physiology than medical students (Alternative Therapies 1998;4(5):64-75.).
In addition, Dr. Gary Wong spends most of his free time with continuing education and research to bring the latest health research and technologies to the wellness center. Our Fremont and the surrounding Tri-City area clients enjoy our approach so much they feel comfortable referring their family, friends and coworker’s to our wellness center.
Even though we bring the latest research in health care and technologies to our clients, we try to keep your costs for care down by doing very little external advertising. Referrals are the greatest thanks we receive and because we do very little advertising we can provide great care at a reduced cost.
We have created a warm “family like” environment like the old time family doctors you used to hear about. We welcome you to our family.
Not sure if chiropractic care is appropriate for you? Call to schedule a free consultation to assess your health care needs.

What I Don't Do
It is not our job to treat your symptoms, or relieve them. That’s what medicine tries to do. My job is to find and correct the exact spinal/health problem that is causing your symptoms if possible.
What many of our clients notice is that once we begin the corrective process of the problem and begin the restoration process, many of their symptoms do disappear.
In a 2002 study, (Spine 2002; 27(3):291-298) a survey of 1,257 chiropractic patients from six locations found that overall satisfaction with care was 87%, (Ann Intern Med. 2001;135:262-268).
Our Techniques
We use a number of highly effective procedures to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. We approach each case individually and prescribe a course of treatment specific to the need and goals of that individual. The approach we use is based on a variety of factors too numerous to describe here.
Fremont and the surrounding Tri-City area patients enjoy our approach so much that they feel comfortable referring their family, friends and coworker’s to our clinic.
The primary treatment procedures we use include:
A Consultation
We provide a thorough consultation so that you (the patient) know whether or not chiropractic care is the appropriate care for what ails you. You have the opportunity to have your questions answered and learn what alternatives are available to you.
During your initial consultation, your treating doctor will educate you on the benefits of chiropractic care. After all, working with your health care provider should be a partnership and fully understanding what is involved in improving your health is why you are here.
In many cases we will be able to improve your health to optimal levels. If we feel that we won’t be able to help you we will advise you of the alternatives and help direct you in the right direction. If after the initial consultation you feel comfortable that we can help we will provide a thorough consultation.
A Thorough Evaluation
The beginning of the evaluation process starts with an examination that will help the doctor make the right decisions in regard to your health.
Since the body is a complex network of different systems your doctor will be examining those systems that he/she feels are contributing to your health problem. The systems often checked are muscular function, neurological exam that may include sensory function and deep tendon reflexes, range of motion of the spine and or extremities and orthopedic testing to rule out more severe conditions.
The doctor will “palpate” or feel the area of complaint and check the location and proper movement of individual bones and how they may differ from there normal position or motion. The doctor will also assess any areas adjacent to the affected area. The doctor will check for trigger points, which are described as hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers. Presence of trigger points may elicit local tenderness, referred pain or motor dysfunction.
If there is any evidence of significant trauma or any red flags found during the physical exam, further diagnostic testing may be in order. These tests may include but not limited to X-ray pictures, MRI or CT scans and Electrodiagnostic testing. The doctor will inform you if they will be required. If X-rays, MRI or CT pictures are required the doctor will refer you out to a specialized radiology center that has state of the art equipment. The pictures will be read by a licensed Radiologist who will submit a report the doctor. The pictures will then be sent to the doctor who will then review them with you and describe any possible problems that may exist and discuss any options if need be. If Electrodiagnostic testing were required you would be referred out to a local neurologist.
If wellness is your goal, the doctor may also perform a hair tissue mineral analysis and/or you may also be referred out for blood and urinalysis to determine how healthy you are on the inside.
Most of the evaluation will be performed on your first visit but may take several visits if coordination of care with other health care professionals is in order. Following the evaluation, a treatment plan will be discussed and if you agree to move forward with care then the next step would be receiving care.
The Treatment Program
After identifying what the problem is and where it stems from a logical plan to relieve pain and correct the problem will be discussed. The actual treatment often includes spinal adjusting to restore spinal bones, which have lost their normal motion or position.
Spinal adjustments are the most essential part of your care.
Spinal joints that aren’t moving right can apply pressure or irritate nearby nerves. Spinal adjustments restore function and motion to these stuck joints, reducing nervous system disruption.
At Sunrise Chiropractic, we use a multitude of adjusting styles commonly referred to as “Diversified”, “Gonstead”, “Integrated Drop Table”, “Arthrostim” and “Activator Methods”. The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used are the result of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics. This is usually performed by a manual thrust performed by the doctor, but can be performed by other mechanical means. The doctor will discuss with you which method he or she feels best to correct your problem quickly, comfortably and effective.
The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from shifting gas and fluids in the joint. This sound may be interesting, but has little meaning as to the value and effectiveness of the adjustment.
While improving spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interference’s, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion.
Quite often other therapies are utilized in your treatment program to speed healing and can be used before or after the spinal adjustment. Your doctor will discuss with you the therapies needed and inform you on the benefit prior to performing them.
Patients appreciate that we explain everything up front and give them the opportunity to ask questions and feel comfortable that they have control in their healthcare.
Other Therapies
- Trigger Point Therapy
- COX Intersegmental Lumbar Disc Decompression
- Cervical Traction
- Ultrasound
- Arthrostim
- Electrical Muscle Stimulation
- Interferential Therapy
- Intersegmental Spinal Mobilization
- Myofascial Release
- Functional Restoration Programs
- Cold Laser
The Follow Up
After your adjustment, we retest to make sure changes have been produced. Testing afterwards helps us deliver high-quality care and high levels of patient satisfaction.
If you’ve been to a chiropractor before and have a preference about how you are adjusted, let us know. We want you to relax, enjoy and fully benefit from your adjustments.
Many patients feel at ease following the initial treatment and often return for several more treatments to correct their problems (corrective care) or they return on an as needed basis (wellness care).
Everyone Benefits
All ages and walks of life benefit from chiropractic care. We help newborns and young children to seniors even the family pets (they have spines too). Even if you have had prior surgeries, you may still benefit from getting adjusted.
